{"id":747,"date":"2021-04-18T21:15:15","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T01:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kenwierzbowski.com\/?page_id=747"},"modified":"2021-04-18T21:16:16","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T01:16:16","slug":"post-tenure-activities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kenwierzbowski.com\/?page_id=747","title":{"rendered":"Post-Tenure Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"form-row\">\n<div class=\"form-row__control\">\n<div id=\"3a11b34a-a786-47fd-8405-321bf0fc1433\" class=\"pf__froala-row pf__froala-row--locked fr-view\">\n<div tabindex=\"-1\">\n<div data-utility=\"dm-spu-framework\">\n<h1>Post-Tenure Activities<\/h1>\n<h2><strong>Transitioned into a post-migration Systems Administrator role for Ex Libris&#8217;s Alma<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Post-migration, continued in the role of primary technical contact to SUNY Library Shared Services.<\/li>\n<li>As project manager for the local Alma implementation team:\n<ul>\n<li>Finalized go-live preparations and activities for Alma&#8217;s launch date of June 13, 2019.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitated communications between library staff, the SUNY LSP Migration Team, and Ex Libris regarding the status of the migration.<\/li>\n<li>Gathered input from stakeholders to inform decisions regarding implementation and go-live.\n<ul>\n<li>Numerous collaborative meetings to discuss and develop new workflows and interactions between library teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Attended weekly migration conference calls.<\/li>\n<li>Final clean up of local data in order to facilitate a smooth migration from Aleph to Alma.<\/li>\n<li>Developed and adapted departmental workflows to align with the architecture and functioning of the Alma\/Primo system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>As Alma Systems Administrator:\n<ul>\n<li>Attendance at regular post-migration conference calls and webinars outlining known issues and enhancements to the Alma\/Primo platform.<\/li>\n<li>Explored, planned, and implemented new library services that Alma makes possible\n<ul>\n<li>Implementation with SLSS of SUNY Resource Sharing Network<\/li>\n<li>Post-pandemic services anticipated include on-campus delivery of library materials, SMS communications with patrons<\/li>\n<li>Configuration and setup of SUSHI protocol to enable COUNTER statistical reports for subscription databases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Continued extensive troubleshooting, configuration, and customization of Alma\/Primo system to meet the needs of the patrons and staff of the Drake Memorial Library. Many of these tasks uniquely presented themselves after go-live in the production environment.\n<ul>\n<li>Examples Included:<\/li>\n<li>Completion of cross-departmental project to sync patron records with the Banner student information system<\/li>\n<li>Continued review, adaptation, and transition of legacy Aleph configuration tables in efforts to take full advantage of Alma&#8217;s capabilities and modernize library services.<\/li>\n<li>Further customization of HTML, CSS, XML, and XSL files within Alma to create a unique, customized experience for the Brockport campus community based upon real-world needs.<\/li>\n<li>Modification of &#8216;Discovery Display Logic&#8217; in Primo that allows showing or hiding various electronic services based on patron classification.<\/li>\n<li>Creating an AutoHotKey script to automatically update 30,000+ item records with incorrect numeration and chronology data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Service as primary technical contact to SUNY Library Shared Services, with duties including:\n<ul>\n<li>Facilitation of communications between library staff, the SUNY LSP Migration Team, and Ex Libris regarding functionality and troubleshooting of Alma\/Primo.<\/li>\n<li>Attendance at in-person and online post-migration Alma training workshops.<\/li>\n<li>Participation on SLSS task forces including Problem-Solution Resource Sharing group and the Network E-Resource Task Force<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Rapid development and implementation of online resources for patrons due to the COVID-19 pandemic and shift to 100% online learning<\/h2>\n<p>Emergency projects included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rapid development and implementation of the &#8216;Continuity of Library Research &amp; Instruction&#8217; LibGuide.<\/li>\n<li>Rapid development and implementation of an accompanying FAQ to provide answers to patrons on changes to library services\n<ul>\n<li>Consulted with Library Management to communicate newly-defined policies through the LibGuide and FAQ<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Addition of numerous complimentary access resources to the Alma\/Primo platform provided by vendors and communicated these changes through the FAQ.<\/li>\n<li>Modification of the library homepage with current OUCampus system permissions and through collaboration with the LITS Web Team<\/li>\n<li>Rapid development and implementation of a hybrid MachForms \/ LibAnswers solution to enable patron requesting of physical access to materials and book chapter scans from the Drake Library.<\/li>\n<li>Modification of Drake Library&#8217;s OCLC Worldshare profile and settings.<\/li>\n<li>Continuous updating of information of the above outlined services as necessary.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Presented with colleagues at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sunyla.org\/sunyla-midwinter-2021\/\">2021 SUNY Mid-Winter Conference<\/a> about these activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Managed, maintained, and promoted the Drake Memorial Library Makerspace<\/h2>\n<p>Selected projects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Continued collaboration with the new Assistive Technology Specialist to develop a tactile, 3D printed campus map to spatially orient visually impaired students, faculty, and staff.\n<ul>\n<li>Expanding upon the tactile map project with initial steps taken to develop a larger scale relief map for use by Campus Police and create showpiece bronze cast maps to be placed on campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Currently working on a project to print over 50 posed figurines to assist in the research of Dr. Pamela Beach for children with visual impairments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Responsible for converting and digitizing media for faculty, students, and staff to improve accessibility to library materials<\/h2>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Digitizing VHS films not available in other formats.<\/li>\n<li>Converting and compressing large video files to make them suitable for hosting on the Kaltura media platform.<\/li>\n<li>Making backup copies of DVDs.<\/li>\n<li>Authoring and burning\u00a0video files to DVD.<\/li>\n<li>Fixing faulty publisher content and converting it to an easily accessible and functioning format.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Actively participated in library reference and instruction activities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Served in regular staffing the library Reference Desk including evening and weekend shifts in rotation.<\/li>\n<li>Primary contact for instruction sessions on legal research using Westlaw Campus Research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Continued work with the Collections &amp; Discovery Team to deaccession materials from the library&#8217;s collections<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Efforts were part of both regular duties and to cleanup bibliographic data in Alma .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Continued collaboration with the Collections, Discovery, Cataloging, and Metadata Librarian to support the REOC and VSW satellite libraries to catalog and process materials.<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Efforts focused on staff training and systems configuration for these libraries in Alma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Other Activities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Served as liaison to the Film Studies, African and African-American Studies, Military Science, and Mathematics departments.<\/li>\n<li>Installed and customized library related software programs on staff PCs.<\/li>\n<li>Assisted in collaborative planning, analysis, and assessment of services.<\/li>\n<li>Identified and recommended acquisition of new technologies for use in the delivery of library services.<\/li>\n<li>Maintained a working knowledge of technologies critical to the design and delivery of library services.<\/li>\n<li>Actively pursued professional development.<\/li>\n<li>Completed role of Team Lead for the Fulfillment, Assessment, Systems &amp; Technology Team (July 1, 2018 &#8211; July 31, 2019)<\/li>\n<li>As team lead played a key role in supporting the library\u2019s goals by<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"form-row\">\n<div class=\"form-row__control\">\n<div id=\"e9ce636b-9816-4b8f-8485-f6f7094a83b4\" class=\"pf__froala-row pf__froala-row--locked fr-view\">\n<div tabindex=\"-1\">\n<div data-utility=\"dm-spu-framework\">\n<div data-toggle-target=\"b09af790-e221-4053-b176-02870251a6da\">\n<ul>\n<li>Direct supervision of 1 librarian, 1 professional, and 1 clerical staff member.<\/li>\n<li>Scheduling, agenda creation, and moderation of team and individual team member meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Reporting on team activities to the Library Director and advocating for team initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Creation of a Microsoft Teams page to improve team collaboration by empowering a more immediate, casual forum to discuss issues and communicate information.<\/li>\n<li>Oversees the Circulation Department and directly supervises the department\u2019s CSEA clerical staff members as of April 2021<\/li>\n<li>Managed and administered OCLC\u2019s EZProxy web proxy service\n<ul>\n<li>Worked with OCLC support to request and configure updates to the EZproxy configuration file to address changes in vendor systems and add configuration stanzas for newly added library databases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Temporarily served in a more in-depth role with the Interlibrary Loan Department until the Tech Services Librarian position was filled (through April 2020)\n<ul>\n<li>Duties included supporting ILL staff, the technical administration, troubleshooting, and modification of Resource Sharing services and the ILLiad platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Served in the role of search committee member for the Tech Services Librarian and LITS Manager of Systems and Network Administration positions<\/li>\n<li>Continued collaboration with colleagues to develop a centralized platform to host continuously updated policies and procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Continued collaboration \u00a0with the Collections, Discovery, Cataloging, and Metadata Librarian to \u00a0develop and implement workflows to enable the REOC and VSW satellite libraries to catalog and process materials.\n<ul>\n<li>Efforts focused shifting to staff training and systems configuration for these libraries with the new Alma library services platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Continued to manage and improve upon a Raspberry Pi single-board computer powering the library\u2019s digital sign.\n<ul>\n<li>Maintained and updated a custom Linux kernel to run the Rise Vision slideshow software.<\/li>\n<li>Migrated signage to a free-of-charge hosting platform<\/li>\n<li>Redesigned and streamlined accompanying slideshow to improve readability.\n<ul>\n<li>Current news headlines<\/li>\n<li>Daily library hours<\/li>\n<li>Current weather conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Appointed committee chair of the Library Website Redesign committee (Fall 2020)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Post-Tenure Activities Transitioned into a post-migration Systems Administrator role for Ex Libris&#8217;s Alma Post-migration, continued in the role of primary technical contact to SUNY Library Shared Services.
