I. Successful performance of assigned duties with considerable independence, initiative and productivity, contributions to collection building and instructional effectiveness

 

  • Managed, configured and maintained the library’s integrated library system (Ex Libris’ Aleph), web OPAC layer (AquaBrowser), and discovery layer (ProQuest’s Summon).

Tasks included:

 Aleph

  • Retrieved and analyzed monthly material processing statistics.
  • Requested and loaded new patron files into Aleph before the start of each semester and interim session.
  • Managed student and staff permissions.
  • Queried Aleph databases and retrieved various reports as requested by staff.
  • Modified various configuration tables that control Aleph’s behavior. (Library hours, patron borrowing permissions, item processing statuses, etc.)
  • Checked URLs attached to bibliographic records to ensure that they still properly function.
  • Worked with ILL staff to reconcile status of materials checked out to ILL account.
  • Created barcode shelf labels for in-house print periodicals.
  • Gathered library related statistics from a variety of vendors and systems for various reporting activities.
  • Tracked and documented Aleph issues and fixes using the FootPrints Service Core support tool.
  • Collaborated with the Office of Library and Information Services to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Batch loaded and suppressed monthly bibliographic records from partnered vendors.
  • Setup and configured EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) integration, allowing for automatic transfer and entry of invoices from vendors, saving over 25 hours of manual entry by library staff.

Aquabrowser

  • Collaborated with Aquabrowser Support to customize the web catalog and resolve outstanding issues.
    • Facilitated dialog between OLIS and SerialsSolutions to resolve failure of the weekly transfer of catalog records into Aquabrowser.

Summon

  • Worked with ProQuest to configure and implement the Summon discovery tool.
    • Customized the Summon discovery tool using input from colleagues and collaborated with ProQuest Support to resolve outstanding issues.

 

  • Managed and administered OCLC’s EZProxy web proxy service.
    • Lead the transition from a locally hosted instance of the EZproxy server to a hosted implementation with OCLC.
    • Coordinated with campus IT staff members and OCLC support to configure proper setup and deployment of the hosted server implementation.

Tasks included:

  • Contacting over 40 vendors to provide and configure the IP address and proxy prefix for the new server.
  • Testing over 200 database URLs with the new server to ensure a smooth transition with minimal impact on students, faculty, and staff.
  • Utilizing the find/replace service in the Aleph 500 ILS to update the new proxy prefix on over 10,000 bibliographic records.
  • Utilizing the find/replace function in LibGuides to update the new proxy prefix throughout the platform.
  • Customizing EZproxy HTML files to match the look and feel of existing files to help ensure a smooth transition for students, faculty, and staff; updated broken links.
  • Correcting a number of configuration errors in the library’s Database A to Z list and SerialsSolutions’ 360Core and 360Link platforms.
  • Accessing Blackboard courses at the behest of faculty members to fix broken proxy server links.

 

  • Collaborated with the Serials and Resource Sharing Librarian to administer, configure, and maintain access to subscription databases.
    • Gathered and compiled usage and other reports as requested by library faculty and staff.

 

  • Maintained and updated installations of the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan software suite.

 

  • Currently serving in the role of Institutional Lead for the local implementation of the SUNY Library Consortium’s migration to Ex Libris’ Alma Library Services Platform.
    • The College at Brockport has been designated as a Vanguard Institution, which carries additional duties and responsibilities. Vanguards go through data migration activities and create an initial test Alma/Primo environment for SUNY. The work performed by vanguards and various working groups during the vanguard phase will be instrumental in determining how all 60 SUNY institutions will migrate their data to Alma and Primo.

Responsibilities as Institutional Lead include:

  • Acting as project manager for the local Alma implementation team.
  • Facilitate communications between library staff, the SUNY LSP Migration Team, and Ex Libris regarding the status of the migration.
  • Gather input from stakeholders to inform decisions regarding implementation.
  • Attend weekly migration conference calls.
  • Attend in-person Alma training workshops.
  • Achieve Alma Administration Certification and serve in role as primary technical administrator post migration.

 

  • Serving the broader SUNY Library Services Platform project as a member of the Data Migration Task Force.

Task Force is charged with:

  • Identifying data migration needs and coordinate migration efforts in collaboration with SUNY Office of Library and Information Services, SUNY University Centers, the LSP Task force, and other LSP working groups.
  • Facilitating data migration preparation efforts throughout the SUNY Libraries Consortium in advance of and during the migration to a Library Services Platform.
  • Researching and recommending procedures and workflows for campuses related to migrating data including but not limited to bibliographic information, reserves, acquisitions, patron information, and electronic resources.
  • Pursuing data migration efforts that will ensure a standard system configuration that allows for enhanced efficiency for local and consortial access, reduce redundant data migration activities among campuses, and that will produce reliable data for system-wide data analysis.
  • Working with SUNY to investigate NYS guidelines or other relevant standards related to data retention policies, user privacy, and best practices for records management.
  • Investigating best practices for migration of data to Alma, and work with stakeholders on facilitating exports of data from current systems for local use if data cannot be effectively migrated to the new LSP.

 

  • Managed, maintained, and promoted the Drake Memorial Library Makerspace
    • Worked with students, faculty, and staff to help bring their ideas and projects to fruition. Examples include:
      • Collaboration with Makerspace student workers to scan and print a scientific model for Dr. Markus Hoffman, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
      • Collaboration with Makerspace staff and The Office of College Communications to laser cut a design for use with a social media campaign on campus.
      • Collaborations with two sections of Dr. Meg Norcia’s Children’s Literature class to 3D print a variety of objects sourced from classic juvenile literature. These collaborations directly lead to the publication of a peer-reviewed article about the experience.
      • Collaborated with the Art Department to create 3D printed miniature replicas of student artwork to display at the Spring Fling exhibit in the Tower Fine Arts Center.
    • Gave presentations at the College Technology Council, SUNYLA conference, and the Rochester Mini Maker Faire on 3D printing and scanning technologies.
    • Presented at Mornings with the Professors and Scholars Day on 3D printing and other technologies.
    • Selected, procured, and assembled advanced equipment for the Makerspace.
    • Awarded Faculty Staff Technology Grants to procure a number of pieces of Makerspace equipment.

 

  • Managed and maintained the library’s Tech Tools technology lending collection.
    • Helped to procure, process, and catalog new Tech Tools equipment. Highlighted devices include:
      • GoPro Hero Session cameras
      • Dell Chromebooks
      • Panasonic Lumix FZ200 Digital Cameras
      • Zoom H1 Handy Portable Audio Recorders
      • Apple iPads
    • Held Tech Tools informational workshops for student employees, student supervisors, and for library staff outlining changes and additions to equipment.
    • Created and continuously maintains the Tech Tools LibGuide outlining available equipment and usage restrictions.
    • Developed and continuously update policies governing circulation and limitations of the Tech Tools collection.

 

  • Served as primary contact for live streaming events on campus. Duties include the maintenance, setup, and operation of video recording and broadcasting equipment.

  • Responsible for converting and digitizing media for faculty, students, and staff. Examples include:
    • Digitizing VHS films not available in other formats.
    • Converting and compressing large video files to make them suitable for hosting on the Kaltura media platform.
    • Assisted Kim Myers and student worker with Brockport Writers Forum videos for compression and upload to Digital Commons.
    • Making backup copies of DVDs.
    • Authoring and burning video files to DVD.
    • Fixing faulty publisher content and converting it to an easily accessible and functioning format.

 

  • Actively participated in library reference and instruction activities.
    • Taught a variety GEP100 information literacy sessions.
    • Served in the role as embedded class librarian in three courses:
      • FLM360 – Film Horror – Spring 2017
      • CMC211 – Protest and Public Opinion – Spring 2017
      • CMC243 – Writing for Television and Radio – Fall 2016
    • Met one-on-one with students for a number of Research Consultations.
    • Served in regular rotation staffing the library Reference Desk including evening and weekend shifts in rotation.
      • Assisted with coverage at the MetroCenter Library by providing reference services for an afternoon shift.

 

  • Worked with Technical Services and Integrated Public Services to deaccession materials from the Reference Collection, the Popular Paperbacks Collection, the Collection Management Project, and the general collection.
  • Planned and implemented the deaccession of the Government Documents collection.
  • Collaborated with the Collections, Discovery, Cataloging, and Metadata Librarian to develop and implement workflows to enable the REOC and VSW satellite libraries to catalog and process materials.
    • Processed and delivered withdrawn paperbacks to the REOC library for inclusion into their collection.
    • Worked with library administration to procure, setup, and deploy label printers, barcode scanners, and other materials processing hardware at the REOC and VSW libraries.

 

  • Served as liaison to the Film Studies, Department of African and African-American Studies, Military Science, and Mathematics departments.

 

  • Worked with Technical Services and Integrated Public Services to deaccession materials from the Reference Collection, the Collection Management Project, and the general collection.

 

  • Installed and customized library related software programs on staff PCs.

  • Established and continue to develop the Drake Memorial Library Makerspace through program development, the procurement of equipment, and cross campus collaboration.
    • Principal developer of workflows, web presence, policies, and implementation of Makerspace services.
    • Served in the role of chair on the Drake Memorial Library Makerspace Committee.
    • Acted as project leader to work with LITS administration to develop and procure a dedicated Makerspace enclosure on the main floor of the library.
    • Directly supervised student employees in the instruction and operation of Makerspace equipment.
    • Kept student employees on task through project management and group chat software platforms.
    • Documented student performance through annual evaluations.
    • Performed administrative payroll duties and approved student timesheets.

 

  • Served in the role as temporary Head of Library Circulation while the Head of Integrated Public Services was out on leave.
    • Resolved circulation related issues with students, faculty, and staff.
    • Directly supervised two library clerks.
    • Collaborated with Circulation Staff to streamline workflows and make improvements to policies and procedures.

 

  • Coordinated with various offices and departments on campus to schedule, setup, and implement live streaming and recording services.

  • Served in the role of MISO Campus Survey Administrator and collaborated with LITS staff to set up and implement the 2014 and 2016 MISO Surveys.

  • Researched and implemented a Raspberry Pi single-board computer solution to power the library’s digital sign. This affordable alternative saved the library hundreds of dollars over a commercial digital signage system.
    • Installed and configured a custom Linux kernel to run the Rise Vision slideshow software.
    • Redesigned and streamlined accompanying slideshow to improve readability. Upgraded features include incorporation of RSS feeds to display:
      • Current news headlines
      • Daily library hours
      • Daily library EMS calendar events
      • Current weather conditions.
    • Replaced a faulty Raspberry Pi unit powering the library’s digital sign.
    • Collaborated with library administration, payment and procurement services, and facilities to procure and implement a new, larger, high definition display for digital signage.

 

  • Collaborated with library administration, payment and procurement services, and facilities to procure and implement a new, larger, high definition display and other multimedia equipment for the library’s Screening Room.

 

  • Collaborated with Circulation staff to implement a restaurant pager system for use with the library’s Course Reserve anatomy model collection.
    • Maintained and repaired the paging system hardware.

 

  • Researched and implemented EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for the Aleph 500 ILS. This allowed for electronic processing of invoices from vendors, saving over 25 hours of manual entry by library staff.

 

  • Planned and implemented a process to deaccession the Government Documents collection.

 

  • Served in the role of Librarian Team Leader for ACRL’s Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success Program.

 

  • Researched, procured, and implemented a cash register in the Circulation department to resolve security and bookkeeping issues.

 

  • Researched, procured, and configured thermal transfer receipt printers for use with the Aleph 500 ILS. This has streamlined circulation transactions and replaced cumbersome, legacy circulation procedures.

 

  • Collaborated with library staff to hold an informational session at the library to engage and inform members of the New Faculty Learning Community about available services and resources.

 

  • Implemented a dual display setup at the Reference Librarian computer station allowing librarians to more easily demonstrate and display information during reference interviews with patrons.
    • Upgraded dual display setup with a fully independent hydraulic monitor system allowing librarians to manipulate the displays for comfort and to accommodate patrons.

 

  • Setup, configured and rewired a new iPad charging cart to meet the needs of the Tech Tools collection. Modifications included additional surge protectors, alteration of original wiring to accommodate both Apple Lightning and dock charging cables.

 

  • Reconfigured and rewired the laptop charging cart to resolve complicated and inefficient cable routing.

 

  • Through research and troubleshooting developed a method to configure Windows 7 PCs to allow label printing through the OCLC Connexion software client. Labels printed without issue on previous versions of Windows, but not on version 7. Fix included modifying permissions and running compatibility mode on PC in Technical Services.

 

  • Collaborated with library administration and OLIS to set up, configure, and install a 3M SelfCheck automated checkout system.

 

  • Collaborated with library staff, OLIS and Sustainable Collection Services to compile and extract over 470,000 bibliographic records from Aleph for collection management review.

 

  • Collaborated with Logan Rath to develop and implement a holds/request system utilizing ILLiad and OpenURL entitled, “Request It!”

  • Continue review and revise Makerspace mission and services, acquire new equipment and expand offerings in order to strengthen collaborations with students, faculty, and staff.
